Company owner and woodworker Matt Feltenstein has lived and created in the Southern United States his entire life. He experienced firsthand the cultural landscapes of Jackson and Oxford, Mississippi; Shreveport, Louisiana; and Charleston, South Carolina where he was drawn to unique and historically diverse traditions and design. Most significantly, he fell in love with the South’s Lowcountry - a region located between Charleston and Savannah, Georgia - widely known for its impact on cuisine, architecture, and stunning natural beauty. Each touchpoint told a story as unique as ancient oak trees, ultimately leading to his greater appreciation of Southern culture celebrated through woodworking.

Matt earned a PhD in neuroscience, building an early career across academia, industry, and government biomedical research before turning his passion for woodworking into a business. Frederick Joggling Boards combines his love of craftsmanship with the timeless tradition of the joggling board - a fixture still seen on front porches, public spaces, and at community gatherings today.

Matt handcrafts each piece with care and intention, bringing a bit of Lowcountry charm to the Frederick, Maryland community. When he’s not in the workshop, Matt enjoys a quiet life in historic downtown Frederick with his wife, Kate, and their two young children, Jack and Jessie Mae.

Woodworker Currie Powers is an artist and art educator whose creative approach is shaped by curiosity, experimentation, and decades of hands-on learning. A Boulder, Colorado native who has spent most of his life in Maryland, Currie has lived in Frederick since 2001, where he enjoys the city’s creative, eclectic energy with his wife and two kids.

His love of woodworking began more than 50 years ago, when his dad first showed him how to use a vise and spoke shave to shape a pinewood derby car. Watching his father build cabinets laid the foundation for a craft that Currie would later refine through research, trial and error, and a natural artist’s eye.

For Currie, woodworking is a perfect extension of his art practice—an opportunity to solve problems, shape materials, and discover the most efficient and elegant way to bring an idea to life.
